Cardiocrinum cordatum wine red form
Highly fragrant and very beautiful, this rare dwarf wine red form of the Japenese cardiocrinum cordatum is native to the island of Kyushu. The bulbs do not need to be as big in order to flower as giganteum: golfball sized bulbs will flower perfectly well. Not very tall, 30-70 cm's at most, but ideal for raised beds or pots in humus rich soil in sun or half shade. When happy, this form will make numeruous offsets which will take over and bloom a few years following the death of the main bulb after flowering.
Record here was 7 good sized offsets formed on 1 bulb at the end of the growing season. If you wish to order this epcies in the spring please do so before mid March as it starts sprouting very early. This variety produces very unusual dark green bulbs.
