Ammocharis coranica
One of my favourite South African bulbs, these produce huge umbels of pink to wine-red flowers, which are highly scented and open in the evening, lasting well in full sun. The bulbs from this stock all usually open light pink and then darken to a nice deep rich reddish pink burgundy colour as they age, as seen in the 2nd photograph.
Incorporating some iron oxide to simulate the ocherite and iron rich soils in which these grow in South Africa and Tanzania will help to encourage flowering, as well as good watering every week while in growth. Good feeding once every 2 weeks with organic liquid fertiliser based on liquid seaweed seems is also encouraged to aid flowering. Needs to be left totally dry from November to April when dormant. Prefers deep pots for the thick deep roots. However, if kept in a well lit place with enough moisture and humidity, they can be almost evergreen. These are all superb flowering sized bulbs, which for the most part have already flowered regularly.
