Dichilostema ida-maia is a little gem from dry rocky places in California. It produces its tubular red flowers with a green tip in May/June. Only about 15-20cm tall, making it ideal for a raised bed or any kind of sunny raised rockery. Despite its Californian nativity it is fully hardy in a well drained spot in European gardens. Highly recommended for its ease of growth and unusual looking flowers.
