Habranthus ruber

This is an extremely rare plant that took me almost 20 years to lay my hands on. Almost unique in the bulb world for its tomato-red flowers for which it is highly esteemed by bulb collectors, as this color is very rarely seen in other bulb genera for that matter. It definitely is a sight to behold when it blooms in any bulb collection between June-October.
Just like most habranthus it tends to bloom after sudden rains coming after a period of dryness. Please be aware that in view of its Brazilian habitat of Rio Grande do Sul, this is a tender bulb and must be kept frost-free in winter in colder areas. It seems to remain evergreen in winter even with minimal watering however.
